Nancy Osborne - Hot
Swing, Cool Jazz
Released: November, 2005
Always the sucker for big-band material (see Robin McKelle), this one
has been in heavy rotation on the 'pod for a couple of weeks. As I write
this, I'm spending a solitary week at the beach, and all the other units
are empty.
So I've got it on the big speakers, and I've got it on loud.
Youngsters can't sing like this. There's a confidence born of
experience, I think.
Ms. Osborne's versatile voice is matched with an entertainer's flair.
This is foreground music.
You should listen!
The track listing is like a live show, opening with "I Love Being Here
With You," and wrapping with, "As Long As I'm Singing." In between - my
favorites included "It's De-Lovely," along with "Something's Gotta Give,"
"I've Got You Under My Skin," and the Chordettes' "Mister Sandman."
Ms. Osborne did a turn as a Chordette herself, in one of the group's
more recent incarnations.
Big band, big speakers, girl singer, week at the beach.
It doesn't get much better.
Highly recommended.
