Sara Lazarus - It's All Right With Me
(Dreyfus)
Released: March, 2007
One of these days, I'm going to pull out one of my old Susie
Arioli discs and tell you all about why she should be in your
collection. That's not why we're here right now, but I'm about to make a
comparison, and you should know the background. Go, go - look up Susie
Arioli on your own.
There are a number of vocalists who - when I hear them - make me smile.
They could be singing the saddest ballad, and I wouldn't believe they
were sad. Ms. Arioli, from Montreal, is one. So is Stacy Kent, and
Christine Rosholt. Ms. Lazarus does most of her work in France - England
was where I ran across her first disc, "Give Me The Simple Life," in a
bargain bin. I missed this release, but found it when poking around for
the "Father's Day" compilation earlier this year.
On this outing, she hooks up with French guitar guy Biréli Lagrène for a
kick-ass jam session.
There's not a bad track on the disc - I was listening to "What A Little
Moonlight Can Do" as a single before I bought the album, and it's my
favorite. But there are others - Cole Porter's "It's All Right With Me,"
Harold Arlen's "Down With Love," and heck - I even like the French one,
"Dans Mon Ile," and I flunked French in high school.
Good stuff, this.
It's all very
iTunable; at least a track or two belong in your collection.
Hell, you'll want the whole thing.
Highly Recommended.
