Diana Krall - From This
Moment On (Verve)
Released: September 19, 2006
You never forget your first love. After years of listening to what my
wife charitably calls "old people's music," meaning Ella and Billie and
Rosemary; Doris, Jo and Keely - I found Ms. Krall's 1998 offering, "When I
Look Into Your Eyes," and actually began looking at new music again.
Yep. I was in love with
her music.
I bought 'em all - still watch the DVD, "Live In Paris" for background
video when there's nothing on TV.
Ms. Krall married Elivs Costello, and I toasted 'em both. Said to no one
in particular, "Wow! They're going to have good looking and talented
kids."
And then she put out "The Girl In The Other Room."
Well, everyone has bumps in their career. Nice try. Good that you got that
out of your system.
Nice to have you back - doing standards.
Big ones, obscure little ones. Hell, I don't care.
Winners include the Sammy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen tune, "Come Dance With
Me," along with a very blue "Willow Weep For Me," and one of my favorites
by most anyone - "Exactly Like You."
This disc isn't the best one in the discography, but it's eminently
listenable, and it's a step back to what Ms. Krall does best. Very
original versions of the Great American Songbook.
Nice to have you back, Ms. Krall. Elvis is very, very good.
On his own discs. And your kids will be good looking.
Add this one to your collection. Recommended.
